Job Summary

The primary objective of this role is to ensure that equity members are properly authorised and approved to provide regulated services including equity members’ regulated services within the JSE derivative and interest rate markets and that equity members continue to meet all of the regulatory requirements of the JSE in respect of the provision of regulated services.

Responsibilities / Outputs Review the integrity of members’ nominee registers including the reconciliation thereof to CSDP records to identify issues impacting on the protection of client securities and administer members’ monthly returns of securities holdings.
Monitor members’ segregation of client funds that should be held in JSET.
Monitor the integrity of members’ money broking financial records.
Allocate the quarterly In-Out Insurance premiums to members of the JSE Equities market and assist in the preparation of the proposal for the renewal of the In-Out Insurance policy.
Resolve any issues arising from the review of the external audit long form reports.
Review and investigate queries and complaints received from clients of JSE equities members regarding the conduct of their accounts and provide an appropriate response to the client.
Assess all membership applications and regulatory services authorisations (including engaging and communicating with senior management) to ensure that all applicants are able to fulfill their obligations in terms of the Rules and the Directives.
Co-ordinate the membership application process and regulatory services applications within Surveillance to ensure that the process is completed within the budgeted timeframe.
Conduct on site reviews at member offices in respect of the custody services being provided by members.
Conduct on site reviews at member offices and ensure that members invoke best practices and procedures in respect of their provision of investment services to clients.
Conduct on site FICA reviews to ascertain whether JSE equity members meet the requirements of FICA and the related regulations.
Assist with the development and enhancement of review procedures.
Provide support to other members of the team where possible.

Experience

An in-depth knowledge of the BDA system
A thorough understanding of the critical operational functions of a stockbroking firm.
A good understanding of the key objectives of securities market regulation.
Experience in compliance monitoring and compliance techniques
An appropriate qualification and experience in financial markets.
Sound knowledge of the JSE rules and directives.
A good understanding of the operations of JSE equities member and the workings of the JSE derivative and interest rate markets.
A good understanding of the key aspects of money laundering and the anti-money laundering legislation in South Africa.
